International Social Service (ISS)

International Social Service (ISS)
The International Social Service (ISS) is an international NGO founded in 1924; it is organized in a network of national entities that assist children and families confronted with complex social problems as a result of migration. Thanks to its presence in more than 120 countries, ISS is a global actor promoting child protection and welfare. In addition to its work on the ground, ISS undertakes training projects, awareness raising and advocacy work in an effort to better respect children's rights.

ISS German branch (ISD)
The German Association for Public and Private Welfare hosts the German branch of ISS: Internationaler Sozialdienst (ISD). ISD acts as an intermediary between voluntary welfare agencies, youth welfare and social authorities, guardianship and family courts in Germany and those abroad. It provides services for cases with an international dimension, obtains social reports from abroad and provides counselling to voluntary welfare agencies, local authorities and courts as well as individuals. ISD focuses on the best interests of the child. It is composed of an interdisciplinary team of legal and social work professionals and funded by the German Federal Government (Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth).

ZAnK
Mandated by the German Federal Government, ISD also acts as the Central Contact Point for Cross-border Family Conflicts (“Zentrale Anlaufstelle für grenzüberschreitende Kindschaftskonflikte” – ZAnK).

European Social Network (ESN)

European Social Network (ESN) is a network for local public social services in Europe, situated in England. Founded in 1999, the Network brings together people who plan, finance, research, manage, regulate and deliver local public social services, including health, social welfare, employment, education and housing. Currently there are over 100 member organisations from 34 countries. ESN offers its members working groups and seminars for exchange on good practice and discussions on current social policy issues. Furthermore, once a year ESN organises its European Social Services Conference with over 400 participants from Europe, but also from Australia, Canada or the USA.
The German Association for Public and Private Welfare has been a member since 2008 and frequently participates in the thematic working groups, seminars and the annual conference.

15.08.2015 – German Association’s Workshop at the 23rd European Social Services Conference
Early July the 23rd European Social Services Conference took place in Lisbon. Building partnerships to improve lives was the theme of this year’s conference. Social services directors, policy makers, practitioners, service users, academics and private sector representatives came together and discussed how a wide variety of partnerships may bring best outcomes for users and society.
One of the 24 workshops has been held by the German Association for Public and Private Welfare in cooperation with the network Reinventing social Affairs. The workshop aimed at presenting one of the successful projects from the network Reinventing social Affairs and discussing the idea of multigenerational housing.

International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW)

The International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW) is a global, non-governmental organization which represents organizations around the world that are actively involved in various activities and programmes aimed at promoting social welfare, social development and social justice. It was founded in 1928 in Paris and acts not only on a global level, but also operates in nine regions. The German Association for Public and Private Welfare (ICSW Germany) takes an active part in the work of ICSW Europe, focussing on international exchange and expert meetings on current topics in social policy and social services.

Social Platform

Social Platform is a European organisation, founded in 1995, that aims to promote social justice, equality and participatory democracy at EU level. Social Platform’s members are 48 European organisations which represent more than 2,800 national organisations, associations and other voluntary groups at local, regional and national level in every EU member state – covering a large spectrum of the EU social civil society sector. Its main topics are social justice, access to and quality of social services, health, migration, inclusion and the fight against discrimination.
The German Association for Public and Private Welfare itself is not a member, but is active in some of Social Platform’s working groups, representing its network ICSW Europe.
