International Social Service (ISS)

International Social Service (ISS) celebrates its 100th anniversary



The Deutscher Verein (German Association) would like to congratulate the ISS on its anniversary: 100 years of cross-border social work - a major milestone! Here in Germany, the ISS is anchored in the Deutscher Verein with its International Social Service (ISD) branch, which also includes ZAnK , the Central Contact Point for Crossborder Family Conflicts and Mediation.

The ISS is represented in over 120 countries and supports around 75,000 families every year. It was founded in response to the waves of migration from Europe to the USA after World War I. The ISS aims to support, protect and reunite families and children. 2024 will therefore be a year of celebration for the ISS - follow the global anniversary activities on the special page .

Recommendations of the Deutscher Verein on a Housing First approach for emergency assistance with housing – concept and guide for implementation


With the recommendations of Housing First, the German Association for Public and Private Welfare (Deutscher Verein für öffentliche und private Fürsorge e.V., hereinafter ‘Deutscher Verein’) is taking up a topic that is playing a more importance role also in Germany as a new approach to help in housing emergencies. In addition to relevant developments on municipal and state levels, Housing First is also gaining in importance where federal policy is concerned. This is especially true of the national action plan agreed in the coalition agreement of the current government coalition,1 which aims to overcome homelessness by 2030 and highlights the Housing First approach in that respect.
